My Female Becca had an Eye injury when she was just a few weeks old. The Ophthalmologist gave me a wash/lube called GenTeal, which actually is for human use, to keep her eye moist while healing. She's ok now, but, I found that it was a good way to soften the accumulation of discharge, and have used it, with a QueTip or a soft Face Towel, to remove the debris. I know there are things which may be cheaper, but, I've had good results with this, and know it's "intended" for use in the eye.
