Vets can usually tell pretty well by looking at their teeth. But when you are talking about just a difference of a couple of months, I'd probably just believe whoever you got him from. The difference between a 7 month old and a 8 month old is VERY difficult to discern just by looking. Pups do mature at different rates and can look different. I have seen pups from the same litter look much further apart than a few minutes or hours!
