I swear Nancy, I'd love to house my female when she is in heat! Read that a breeder here does just that! Boys are just impossible and my Yorkie is the worst of the lot!
I have to say I only use diapers to protect the carpet, or we are out in public.
The protection comes from separation for us; crates in different rooms for night time sleeping, when we are relaxing in the garden room we have either the boys crated and she is free, or she is crated and the boys are free.
Even still accidents do happen! We had Miss escape artist crated upstairs, with bungee cords as an added protector. The boys were downstairs in our bedroom, Razz was crated Magic free. I get up in the middle of the night, and who greets me beside my bed by Little Miss escape artist! Suffering succotash!. Thank goodness she wasn't pregnant! How-ever that Miss is one pure "bitch", the more the boys whine after her, the nastier she gets. I mean really really nasty. I was very lucky, that Magic didn't have holes in his body, which he would have if he had pressed her.
A spay of course is in her near term future!
To the OP: fingers crossed for you, you might get lucky. I do agree with Nancy I'd never trust bellybands or diapers to prevent mating.
