It's probably a flea allergy. I rescued a Dachshund recently who was losing all of his back hair and had none on his tail from a flea allergy. They thought it was demodex mange but it turned out to be a flea allergy. He really needs to be taken to a vet or he will continue to suffer.

Also, sometimes shampoo can make it worse, depending on what type you use. The Dachshund is being treated with medical shampoo.

Is he on any flea preventative, e.g. Frontline, Advantage, etc?
