There are those who believe that the AKC is definitive in regards to breed standards. Then there are those of us the don't feel that way. You have to remember that some AKC breed standards also include surgically altering dogs to fit their criteria. Why they are so set on color standards but not on natural physical conditions is beyond me. I am not condeming the AKC only stating what is obvious.
So you pretty much have to decide which organization is a better fit with your own beliefs and standards and then follow that organization's standard that matches.
There are facts in this post and the rest are my opinions. If you disagree with me, that is your right but don't attack me for my opinions. |
Just curious by surgically altering them are you referring to docking the tails and ears. So you do not alter your dogs tails or ears? Or are you just stating that is a standard of the AKC ? When I got Buster from a pet store ( I made many mistakes in the beginning ) I thought that AKC and CKC which Buster was registered by were the same but I have learned that the CKC (Continental Kennel Club) is more for backyard breeders or large scale breeders which some consider to be puppy mills. I was reading some info from the CKC website that they determine purebred by 3 photo's and 2 witness which I feel could be more manipulated than the AKC which requires the two breeding dogs family tree or registry(sorry not a breeder so the words I use may not be correct) to determine purebred status. The CKC will also register mixed dogs but it seems more for the purposes of ownership and participating in CKC events and being recognized by the CKC and not based on breeding for the betterment of the breed.
Does Continental Kennel Club register mixed breed dogs, and if so, why?
Yes, while 98% of the registry is made up of purebred dog registrations, CKC does offer its registration services to owners of mixed breed dogs. Owning a mixed breed dog is very common today, and CKC wants to be helpful to those dog owners as well. Many mixed breed dogs are rescued from shelters by responsible owners looking for a good canine companion to be part of their home.
CKC encourages registration of these dogs for a number of reasons. Registration services provide proof of ownership, allow the dog to participate in our performance events, allow CKC to record the accomplishments of the owner and these canines, and make available all of the great services CKC has to offer.
This is just my opinion and I am willing to learn if I have stated things incorrectly. I am uninformed about the UKC and ACA so I will not comment on them.
PS Congratulations on your babies they are adorable and I am glad Ollie lives on through his babies.
