For us, Joey's treats are determined by the circumstances. Under normal circumstances, he is quite willing to "work" - follow commands - for plain kibble. However, I give "high value" treats for certain things. Like, when he was potty trainging, always for coming when called, when it's something he's hesitant to do, when he has to "leave it" or "drop it" are examples. High value treats here are small cubes of cheese or leftover meat. I rotate to keep it exciting.
