Once I got a 12" Merrick bully and it stunk like a pile of poop when it was bone dry! So yes, they can smell when not even chewed on yet! Yuck!

This happens with us too. They all have to have one each, but still sometimes they want to see what the other one has in case they like the other's better. This is usually just between Uni and Chloe though. Smokey is not a fighter.
