Yes, I would be furious if the store would not replace the tag if it was horrific... In fact, knowing me, I would throw a hissy fit until they fixed it....
But, what gets me thinking is the op stated that $10 would be a burden because it was christmas time... What If your baby gets sick?? what if, what if, what if.... I just can't get the fact that 10 bucks is a problem....

I'll put in my two cents here. I'm doing better than I was a few years ago, but who isn't strapped for cash around the holidays? Even if you have lots of money in savings, you are spending more around this time of year. I don't think the OP is saying she can't afford $10. It's the fact that she didn't expect it to be that much and plus the fact they messed it up.
God forbid something were to happen to anyone's pups. But I wouldn't consider that part of the equation just yet. If she really couldn't afford the $10 I don't think she would have gotten the tag. The old tag was a bit beat up, but still readable, so it's not like it was a necessity.
