First, masking down with isoflurane, he would likely have to use a higher level to get her deep enough than if he were to give an injectable before. Also, she probably won't wake up all too happy with this method... A local injection couldn't possibly numb all the areas that need to be numbed unless I am completely missing something. And then it sounds like he wants to have the gas lighter if he is going to do it that way. I would not have my dog light for an abdominal surgery. If he wasn't going to have her light, then there is no need to numb her abdomen. I would get a second opinion to make sure his plan is adequate for your girl. When in doubt, it can be performed at a specialty hospital with an anesthesiologist on staff.
