I'm sorry you're upset.
Gas chamber is sort of nonspecific. Yes, they do cram tons of animals into them at some shelters and pump in toxic gas to euthanize. Sometimes it doesn't even kill the animals, so they are left to suffer some more.
there are also "gas chambers" (induction chambers/inductions tanks) at veterinary hospitals. They are (rarely) used to put an animal under anesthesia (esp. when they are too hard to handle). And unfortunately they are also needed (again, rarely) to euthanize an animal when they are too hard to handle or when a vein can't be hit after several attempts (small, sick animals have crappy veins generally..). Gas anesthesia is pumped in and they fall asleep as humanely as possible, then in the case of euthanasia, if a vein still can't be hit with the animal sleeping, the solution is injected intracardially. It is very humane if done correctly, it's just terribly unpleasant to think about.
But again, when they throw tons of animals in a chamber and pump it full of gas and hope they are dead, that is completely unacceptable. A gas chamber in and of itself is not a bad thing though.
