The little trimmer that I use takes such a small layer off that you cannot shave them bald or anything unless you just keep rerunning it over the area. It only takes a small bit off at a time and you have total control. I cut less drastically with this than I do with the little blunted scissors. Often I trim a bit too much hair at a time with them - can't do it with this little trimmer. I use it on the ears, ear edges and around his perianal area. It uses a single AA battery and rinses under the sink. It is just foolproof and apparently hasn't sharp enough eldges to cut skin. It is very very effective and I think it was only $9.99. I found it in the Pharmacy Department of Walmart hanging near the end of an aisle with shaving cream, etc., as I recall.
