Try a good conditioner. I like Biogroom silk creme conditioner, Chris Christensen, Vellus, and Petsilk.
When Teddy's coat is a mess, I work a little Petsilk Silk Serum into his hair before using the tail of a rat-tail comb to carefully untangle him. (both of these things can be purchased from YT user Mimimomo at toplinepet.com.
I also use a ISINIS brush, available on Amazon, and a face/leg buttercomb.
