One of my dogs is very difficult to teach new things to. A tip I was given once was to watch for little things that they do naturally and turn it into a trick. For example, my difficult to train boy would always get up on his hind legs when he wanted attention and wave his front paws in the air. I taught him "dance" by putting a treat in the air above his nose and kept it just high enough to where he would get on his hind legs and "dance". He learned that quickly. Another thing I taught him was "crawl". Whenever he stretches he army crawls across the floor. He's been known to crawl across the entire length of the house at times. I made it into a trick. I put him in a down position then wave a treat on the floor just in front of his nose and gradually pulled it back. He learned that pretty quickly too.
