WWYDI You were just given the news your father has liver cancer and will die in less than a year? |
This one is a little close to home for me but I will answer it as best I can.
In all cases like this to be told you have terminal cancer is a divesting thing and can do all sorts of mental damage not only to the patient but to family as well.
The strange part of it is that the patient will eventually accept his/her fate and shrug it off as a fact of life as it is going to happen and nothing can change that fact.
Believe me I am talking from a position of strength here I know this is fact.
For family and friends it is different but there is still nothing you can do about it.
In this position I would do my best to make the patient as happy as I could without overwhelming them. I would try my best to treat them as normal as normal can be in situations like this.
Above all, happiness is vital and this should always be top priority.
I really do hope non of you are in the position, it is not pleasant at all.
