I have the same problem. Brandi loves cat poo and will actually run around the house with it in her mouth before eating it. What I basically had to do was get a cover for the litter box and then turn it facing the wall with just enough room for kitty to get in. Brandi can't get to it but the cat still can. Because my cat is so much older and not as healthy anymore, placing it up high was not an option for me.
