I did the puppy class at petsmart with Callie and loved it so did she I thought it was great but I know not all petsmarts are the same but I do recommend a puppy class. I used a wire crate and put a blanket over it except for the side with the door. I have always felt wire was sturdier so that's why I chose wire and that's what we used when we had puppies when I was growing up. I would not use a collar for walking the puppy on the leash because it can cause trachea damage in small dogs. I use a collar to hold Callie's tags but never ever hook the leash to it and a harness when she is going to be hooked to the leash.
