I do agree with you that surgery really should only be done as a last resort. I came across a great website that really explains the surgery. It also explains the non-surgical alternative. I think I will try this conservative method for healing first. There are even braces that can be made to stabalize the joint. This helps with the healing and also provides some protection for the other leg also. I do not know how to post a link to the site so I will give the address. I hope this may provide valuable information to others with this same injury.
