Thank you all, I knew YTers would understand.
The neighbors who asked do not have pets, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt as to why they would think a "borrow" would possible.
They are good people, just clueless on being a pet owner. My other neighbor called me when we came inside the house and was just as floored as I was- but she is a lot more direct than I am.
