I just picked my 7 yo yorkie up at a university teaching hospital for small animals. He was diagnosed with a collapsing trachea after having fluoroscopy done. This hospital at Purdue Univ Lafayette was the only available known to have that test ability. He has probably had the CT all his life and it keeps get progressively worse.

I was once told reverse sneeze, cough, soft palate issue, etc. Not until it became SEVERE was I told collapsing trachea and to just keep him calm. He began "honking" on Wednesday at the vets and it never stopped. I took him to one emergency hospital suggested by the vet and they told me to take him to Purdue for possible surgery.

He did not have the stent surgery. His collapse is very bad. He is resting now at home and on four medications. We are switching from his grain free diet to raw. He will NOT go to a vet/groomer/anywhere any more without his medicine to calm him down. The medicine is very strong.

I hope the best for you. But please at least find out what it is exactly. I was never told. And he is in bad shape. He is also overweight for he couldn't walk far because of the problem. He needed xrays to find out. The flouroscopy, I was told, would show his trachea. And I saw the film yesterday. The trachea was closed at the upper part - not lower which is really bad. His heart is good, his lungs good, blood work all good. whew!

Life will be different for him now. Very calm here. Very quiet. All phone ringers are OFF. No door bell allowed. I must keep the other two calm and quiet too. If someone is to visit he will need to go downstairs in his cage. I am going to be sure he is cared for. I am very sorry you are going thru this. Hope all turns out well and it turns out to be elongated soft palate or something like that!! HOPE!!!! Take care.
