I am not one to rush to the vet for every little thing. However, I always play better safe than sorry as well. When it comes to vomiting and diarrhea especially. Certain things I just don't think it's smart to wait out. Throwing up once or twice during the day... no I wouldn't rush to the vet. Repeatedly vomiting, and some blood being present, would definitely have me at the vet asap. No question.

As an example, Jackson threw up twice after eating some Beneful food once. I knew it was the food, he did it twice, was fine the next day, did not go to the vet, no puking for a LONG time after that. One night, after getting into WAY too much people food, Jackson began throwing up the next morning. Then an hour later, again. Then a few hours later again. Then he threw up all through the night every hour or so until 5am when there was some blood present. I got him to the vet asap and honestly I probably waited too long. Had I not waited so long, I probably would not have had to pay around $1700 having him hospitalized on IV's, diagnosed with pancreatitis, given subq fluids, blood tests, and all that stuff. I could have avoided, or at least lessened, his suffering had I taken him in earlier on before he vomited through the night.

It's best to know your own dog for sure. I just knew that one night that he was NOT well and it was not just a simple upset tummy throw up (because I also know Jackson does not really have a sensitive stomach). But vomiting that much does not sound normal to me at all. Jackson has only had around three or four throwing up episodes in his life. Only one (the pancreatitis dx) being anything serious. If he was throwing up weekly or even monthly, I'd be concerned.

Good luck -- I hope you take the advice ^^.
