I use Vellus Anti-Stat on my boys. Very light scent. Vellus sells a sampler pack if you want to try it. Max tends to get greasy with anything else. I tried diluted Coat Handler conditioner, but it made my boys' coats a mess within a couple of days. Most things make the coat a magnet for dirt and dust.
Itchiness could be an allergy to something environmental or food related. If it is related to hair products, make sure the skin isn't drying out.
