My hubby was the one who pressed for a haircut for my boy too. Deuce was about 6 months when I officially had him groomed. I went with him and asked the groomer if I could watch so I could learn how to do it. She was great and really took the time to talk to me about what she was doing. Well I started to do it myself with the support of several folks on YT and a person I met through my local Yorkie Meetup group. Now I take him to the groomer to just get his nails cut and ear hair pulled out (I'm too chicken). I just don't want to leave him at a groomer and I actually find it relaxing to style his hair. (I'm a little strange huh?)
Keep your in home brushing and combing a ritual just to get him used to it and if you are going to use a groomer he might as well get used to being handled by someone.
