I have already replied once but let tell you my story. Gizmo was my baby and he was sick most of his life. We tried to manage him by his food and medication. He was almost four years old when his disease progressed to the point that we could no longer manage it medically and the only hope for Gizmo was to have the LS surgery. At four years old he was not a good candidate for surgery because of the damage already done to his liver. If he had the surgery when he was younger he would have had a better chance. He survived the surgery but we lost him after developing pneumonia after the surgery.
If they cannot repair the shunt or if your baby has MVD then you would manage him medically meaning that he would eat a strict prescription diet for the rest of his life and probably be given supplements and lactose to take also, but if they can repair the shunt this is your best hope for your baby to have a happy and normal life. I wish you the best of luck and will keep you and your baby in my prayers. |
