Yorkie's First Haircut I took my 4-month old Yorkie puppy to go get his first haircut and there's something I'm a little confused about. First off, the lady says she doesn't use nooses and will only cut the dog's hair if he's cooperative. So she recommended for the first haircut to only do a very light trim. When she said "light trim" I thought she was going to lightly trim his whole body. All she ended up doing was shave the hair on his belly and trim his legs/paws. When I went to go pick him up, I she to bring him in 3 weeks from now and they will start working on his face. I was pretty disappointed that they didn't trim any of the hair on his coat, which has gotten pretty long already. She said they typically don't shave the coat until they're 1 year old. This sounds a little hard to believe. If his hair is this shaggy when he's only 4 months, it'll be crazy by the time he's 1 year old.
Can someone offer any advice on this? Is this groomer full of it...can you shave/trim Yorkie coats prior to 1 year? BTW, we won't be showing/breeding him so we want to go with the teddy bear/puppy cut and not the standard AKC-style look. |
