My pup was extremely matted. The black puppy hair started to grow in silver and it knotted up right at the spot where the color changed. I bought Isle of Dogs spray and a de-matting tool. It took lots of patience - I did a little bit at a time for about 10 days. Then I sent him for a trim and she cut him all the way down
. It grew back in 3 weeks though and the silver hair is very silky and tangle free! The Isle of Dogs was a lifesaver though and the tool I used to cut through the tangles was this one:
