Hello everyone, please Help. I brought home my Nicky at 9 weeks old just 3 weeks ago from a breeder in South FL. He is a supposed minature weighing in at 1.3 lbs. He has a "hacking" honking type of cough and was on Colovamox for 12 days (kennel cough we thought), didn't work, NOW on Doxycycline and two different cough syrups. His congestion cleared up, but still has a honking type of cough, and does that "hack" sound now and then but much worse at night. HELP! It's been 3 weeks. Vet is talking about consulting an internal vet specialist to maybe do a bronchoscopy or perhaps a "treachea wash" to clear this up. THere is a chance of a genetic treachea problem also. I had a full size yorkie years ago that had to be put down due to a severe collapsed treachea! So scared, and uncertain. I also got pet insurance but of course they refused to cover this "pre existing" problem. That figures too.
