It sounds like he his showing his dominance or possibly even marking his territory.

As far as the barking you need to treat it like any other unwanted behavior and nip it in the budd. Correct the behavior the moment he starts, even before if possible. Correc it the moment you see him getting ready to bark.

I HOPE YOU ARE A PATIENT PERSON, BARKING IS VERY HARD TO BREAK !
