when lola was in an ex pen i had a pad in there, i let one door open right into her crate and one was closed when i was not home. i learned she didnt like the pen much and would rather be gated in the kitchen area with a pad and not be in a pen. depends on teh pup and how long they are in there and how much free room they have.
will your pup be in the pen when you are home, when you are not home? are they enclosed in the pen at night time?
