I don't like the Rug Doctor myself. I don't think it extracts as much as it should. We had a pipe break in the wall not long ago and used the rung doctor to clean the rug. The rug ended up being wetter after we used it than before. Anything that stays wet that long could possibly grow mold or mildew. I ended up using my little rug shampooer to draw more water out of the rug.
I have never had much use for Nature's Miracle either. I started using a product by Purina for accidents when I got Gracie. It works great and has a deodorizer in it as well. Maybe as you open the windows and put some fans on it the rug will dry and then you will know more about how it smells.

I found the Purina stain and odor remover at Walmart in the pet department.
