Default LP Surgery

So we went to the vet today one for a bump but two to talk about Callie's LP. Callie's LP really bothers her after she has had a day with Sammy or has had a big active day. She sees Sammy once a week and after he leave she limps and will try to lay down on whatever dog bed is on the floor wont even attempt climbing the stairs to get on furniture. My vet gave me pain meds and said that we will need to monitor her kidney and liver if she takes these meds a lot. She also suggest going to an orthopedic surgeon and getting the LP surgery. I'm thinking about at least taking Callie in to talk to the orthopedic surgeon and see if he recommends the surgery for her, the odds, and just everything. I'm unsure of what to do so I was really hoping to get opinions and any information I can about LP surgery. A bit over a year ago we were told it was grade 2 in one and grade 3 in the other. It never seems like her leg catches but I can see the one pop in and out almost anytime she walks. I dont want her to hurt but I am terrified of surgery too.
