I'm not stating if this trend is good or bad. It is a fact that the show world can be very political and trendy. You can look at how many breeds looked 50 years ago and what is winning in the ring today and you will see that although many characteristics of the breed are the same there are many that are very different. I could name several breeds that have been effected by this trendy type of breeding. There are those who have been breeding and showing Yorkies for years that are concerned about what the trend has become in the Yorkie show ring while others continue to breed toward what is popular. It is evident that smaller dogs are popular in some circles.

If you compare the Yorkshire Terrier of even 30 years ago to the current show dogs you can see an obvious difference in face and body type. There are all kinds in the show world but the fact is if you want to win in the ring these trendy looks are what tends to get the ribbons with certain judges.
