Just trying to understand exactly where this knot is located? First what side of his body is it on?
Is it located in the loin area? Perhaps a pic of where it is located would help.

Some "knots" can be swollen lymph nodes but hard to tell that when location is unclear.

Perhaps to ease your mind, you can call vet and explain what you have found and where. If the vet says bring in; then see if they are okay with you paying with a postdated cheque for Saturday.

Also a good idea is to get a Care Credit card; many vets accept this card in the USA.

Hopefully this is nothing, but a little wake up call for you to start putting aside some funds for medical care.
