I'm not so sure. My old neighbors where I grew up have had coyotes in their driveway in recent years.
That I would have definitely noticed! Of course, the corn fields and small wood we played in during childhood have now been turned into half million dollar homes, as has most of the farmland in that community. Also, my mother had a 4lb chihuahua, so we always paid attention. Besides, those were the good old days where parents kicked their kids out of the house as soon as breakfast was over and didn't see them back until the street lights came on.
We definitely spent more time outside than not...
