I know how you feel - I hate leaving my pup, even just for a couple of days. My preference is a house sitter or dog sitter that you know and trust. I usually have my brother watch the little munchkin for me, though my parents have also kept him a couple of times and my best friend has watched him once. Levi is familiar with all of them, sees them regularly, and behaves well for them.

The thing that makes me most uncomfortable about vet boarding is they spend all day in a kennel, and only get walked 2-3 times per day. Levi prefers to go out every 4 hours, but he can hold it for about 6. A couple of short walks per day would not work at all for him, plus he prefers to have social interaction. I hate the thought of him kenneled all alone for days on end.

Doggie day cares may provide socialization and fun, but they make me nervous for an extended stay - especially if it's somewhere you've only been to a few times.
