 gates and expen
I have two baby gates from wal-mart for the doorways for the bedroom and bathroom (they sleep in the bathroom) and an expen to restrict access to the house - they have access to the living room, dining room and kitchen; the expen keeps them restricted from the spare rooms, den, laundry room and front entry way. I will probably keep this up for years to come as I never have to worry about them sprinting out the front door.
