I know I shortened the tether cos I still have the leftover scrap I cut off in my sewing kit. But then I got paranoid after hearing from a lady at my vet who lost her Chi in a car accident & it was in a console booster seat, but still flew foward as the airbags deployed and was killed. So, I bought another tether that is more heavy duty and clips into the actual seatbelt and attaches to her harness. I also use a folded blanket in her seat for comfort and for easy of cleaning it if she gets dirty on our trips to the walking trail.
