Default Need help with medication

I have a 15yr old dog that has decided that he doesn't want to take his Tramadol for pain. Im sure that it taste bitter and that he can smell it. This is what we have tried to hide it in over the past year and how it has gone.
Peanutbutter-forget it
Pill pockets-not
American cheese-even if there are several pieces of cheese to discuise it,he will eat all but the one piece containing the Tramadol.
Ginger cookies-eats cookie,spits pill out
Hotdog-ate every piece except the one containing the pill.

Any ideas?!! He obviously hurts, there isn't another choise for pain meds that wouldn't totally distroy his liver. He weighs about 64lbs,in his best days he weighed 70lb. Sever hip displacia, but can still get his fanny off of the floor and out the door to pottie.

When he was younger,I could place a pill on the floor, say "eat it" and he would, but this one must REALLY taste bad.

I am so frustrated!!!
