I don't have a problem crating/ gating Yorkies when they are puppies. We can't watch them every minuet. They can eat something, chew through a electric cord or a lot of of other dangerous things. We have a huge crate like Great Dane size. If we need to leave them for a few hours that works. Their own crate and potty pad fits inside the huge crate and they still have room for water bowl and toys. We also have a child's play pen that works. And Hubby made gates out of plastic lattice 8 foot tall sheets (It's the one with the small holes) he bought at Lowes. You can cover a whole door way or cut them in half and make a 4 foot tall gate.
