A thing few seem to know about flying into the UK. But every pet/show dog, etc., flies into the country that way, so it's a well established routine there.

I've never experienced a 4 hour delay clearing customs. Once I was off the plane, gathered my luggage and made it the animal reception centre, my dog was ready to go. On the rare occasion I only had carry-on luggage and scooted over there quickly, I've waited a half hour at most. As long as all the paperwork is correct and the microchip scans, it's a relatively quick process. Of course, the time of day & number of animals they have coming in at that time may make a difference. I prefered the overnight flight where I got in around 6:30am your time, and that was always smooth sailing
