Exclamation Large Lump above shoulder

I just noticed a very large lump above Miles' shoulder, right about where his microchip is (he was microchipped about 3 years ago). It's a pretty large protrusion for his size (probably the size of a 50-cent piece), and feels somewhat soft to the touch. Miles doesn't seem to be in pain when I touch it. This came on really suddenly...I didn't feel anything like that on him yesterday. I've started googling it, since it's after hours at his vet, and I'm seeing some really frightening things (cancer caused by a microchip?). Maybe it's just coincidence that this lump is by his microchip. I have no idea. Anyone with experience with something like this? I don't know whether to wait until morning and take him to the vet, or haul him to the emergency vet tonight. In my experience, the ER vet has done more harm than good, so I am hesitant. Miles is acting fine, and the lump doesn't seem to cause any pain. Help!
