For general maintenance anesthesia it is Iso or Sevo (Halothane is older and should have been phased out by now). Both Iso and Sevo are very good drugs. There are pros and cons to each. It is perfectly acceptable to let your vet make the call between the two. Sevo is more expensive and some vets don't even like it as much as Iso, so Iso tends to be more commonly used. It can also depend on the health of the dog. One may be safer to for a dog with a certain disease while the other may be safer for a dog with another disease. I've only been around Iso. They tend to do very well with it.

Injectable drugs are almost always used pre-maintenance. There are many acceptable drugs and combinations and many unacceptable drugs and combinations. Again, the choice is based on vet preference, the health of the dog, and what is being done. It wouldn't make any sense for me to list the combos that do work because there are many more that would be just fine. All I can say about this is if your vet is using Iso or Sevo, they are probably smart enough to choose a safe injectable drug(s). If you are nervous, then you can always ask what they use and Goodle it. However, remember that this is anesthesia and sedation we are talking about, so reports of bad things happening will easily be found when doing searches. I think usually it's best to just trust the vet with this part of things.
