Well... Thor ended up losing four more teeth. The vet said one of the top ones at the very very back had developed an abscess. She also said that there wasn't any way to extract the roots of the baby teeth without pulling out the molars right behind the top canines.
I guess this is a happy ending... Thor is back in my apartment, eating and sleeping. My head is kind of spinning with all this conflicting info. Now I'm kind of wondering if she should have left the baby teeth roots in so Thor didn't have to lose the molars. I could have gotten regular x-rays to make sure they didn't abscess.
Honestly, this is why I am so uncomfortable with H&W. Training I feel like I understand all the different schools of thought and the research behind it, and if you make a mistake, at worst, your dog never gets potty trained. It drives me crazy that there isn't even a consensus on what the best diet for your dog is, let alone finding a good vet that is knowledgeable about all the different areas of the body, then knowing when to overrule your vet... oy vey!
. . . . .
Oh, AND the vet said he's eventually going to lose all his lower incisors. She said he just doesn't have enough bone to keep them in place, and if he ever gets any kind of infection in there again, they're goners. Not like within the next year, but within the next five. Yippee.
