If I understand correctly, she has access to the potty patch during the day when she is not confined to the xpen or crate?
When Max was younger, I had his potty pad in his xpen, which I left open during the day. He always went into the pen to use the pad. I think he was over a year old when I just took away the pen because he didn't sleep in it anymore.
For us, it wasn't about potty training, rather it was Max's attachment to his pen. It was his safe place.
