| She is no longer in business, but I got my girls from Memphis Yorkies, a home/hobby breeder who (due to her husband's health and her own) was relocating and ready to part with some of her older furbabies. It is my understanding that her sister is a hobby breeder also (PuppyLoveMemphis.com); however, please be aware that her website and nursery pages are not current - those puppy photos have been there for more than eight months. I tried the phone number listed on the site to see if she is currently breeding yorkies, but got her voicemail. If you search the internet for local hobby breeders, please beware of TokensMane.com. The lady I visited in person would not allow me into their mobile home. She brought the dogs out and sat in my truck (even the puppies). From the amount of barking as she came and went from the trailer, I could tell there were a lot of dogs in there. The dogs she brought out all smelled of urine, were dirty and matted. Least of all, they were not consistent with pure bred yorkie build, muzzle, etc. (they looked to be mixed breed). I left with the sick feeling that I had just witnessed a true "back-yard breeder". My experience considering rescue: YorkieHavenRescue appears to be a wonderful organization; however, most (if not all) of their furbabies are out of state. Petfinder is great for searching your local area. TailsOfHopeDogRescue and DoubleDogRescueSouth (both work w/Petfinder) were very kind, considerate, and helpful. I did not have a good experience with SunnyMeadows (works w/Petfinder) - the woman I spoke with was so rude and unsettling that I decided the process of rescue wasn't for me. If you are not interested in rescue, my advice would be to first contact LaJune Mills in Oxford. Her contact info can be found here: http://www.ytca.org/breeder3a.html#MS I was referred to her by another retired local breeder; however, I ended up not contacting her bc I got my girls the same week I received the referral. Maybe someone on this site has experience with her??? PLEASE understand that what I have stated above are solely my personal experiences and opinions. It is very important that you do your own research, meet with breeders and/or foster moms, and follow your instincts . |
