If you are okay with your puppy sleeping with you, no issue at all. I would be sure to get stairs or a doggie ramp to help him get on and off the bed. My previous Yorkie used to sleep with me every night. She used to sleep in the small of my back. If I tossed and turned too much, she would go to the reading chair I had in the corner of the room.

My only issue was that after years of this, when I went out of town it was hard for me to sleep without my furry heating pad.

She had a crate and she loved it. Anytime I could not find her during the day she would be in her crate napping. I left the food off most of the time and only closed it when we went somewhere in the car.

I digress, if you are okay with him sleeping with you then no worries at all. Sounds like he still likes his crate so he still has a safe place.
