My poodle did that and it drove me nuts. Tatum never started it as a puppy and I was really glad. Now, I've noticed that she does it every once in a while - carries each mouthful to an area rug in the breakfast room. At first when I just had regular ceramic dog bowls, she would insist on pawing at the bowl until it tipped and spilled the food out - then she would eat it. She got really mad when I bought new bowls that are ceramic non-tip ones. Got her on that one! But the funniest thing with her is that if I'm sitting on the couch (usually working on my cross stitch), she'll go eat and then jump up on the back of the couch and come over and burp and start kissing me tons and tons. Kinda gross!
