I pair brushing with walks. The boys know they have be brushed or combed a little before they can go out.

I save most deep brushing/combing for bath day. The boys love the attention and they love the extra massaging that I incorporate.

I agree with DvlshAngel that combing is essential. Brushes are not enough to keep the hair tangle free.

Try grooming when your pup is worn out and do a lot of massing in between brushing and combing.
