Protein and dog food is always a debated topic. I think you have to go with your gut and feed what you feel comfortable with. This is just my opinion but I never felt comfortable with it.. I don't know.. It was just how I felt. Usually, with higher protein percentages, higher fat content follows. The fat is what scared me the most. I just never felt comfortable feeding something with a high fat content to a breed that has pancreatic issues.
However.. Their are many who feed it and like it. I also don't know of any research that suggests a higher protein diet will damage the kidneys. If your dog has certain pre- existing diseases with liver, pancreas, kidneys, then obviously higher protein is not recommended.
Bottom line, My deciding factor came to was not what a read online. Yes, I am guilty and I used to just "follow" what I read. But my mind what opened when my Taycie needed and RX diet. For now it is working for us and I am happy with it. I do think really is a personal choice and what works for some, does not work for all.
