I got a young adult.

Levi is a rescue and was almost 2 years old when I brought him home. It was a pretty easy transition. I had met him several times, so he was familiar with me and I knew what kind of personality I was bringing home. He needed some "brushing up" on his potty skills and basic obedience, but he had those down pat within a few months.

Because he was already an adult, I knew what I was getting. I knew what he looked like and how he acted. He is energetic and playful - the exact temperament I wanted in a dog. He loves to go places and play with toys and meet new people. He behaves well when I take him in public or to other people's homes.

I think there are many positives about getting an adult - but some people really enjoy the puppy stage, so that is something you will have to consider.
