I don't care how careful I am, Gracie gets mats and she is groomed daily. So please don't think it doesn't happen to the rest of us. I hate mats too. The best advice I got was from my own hair dresser, cornstarch or baby powder, and a paper clip unbent. Slowly pick from ends of hair toward skin. If the mat is really tight cut mat the same way the hair grows, not across like snipping bangs. Hope this helps
